Welcome to the Christians for Dean website. We exist to invite people of faith to consider joining the grassroots movement to elect Howard Dean president.

Evangelical Christians have traditionally voted Republican based on the pro-life/abortion issue alone. This created the voting bloc known as the "religious right' and the powerful Christian Coalition lobby. With a sometimes token stance against abortion, the Republican Party co-opted us into an entire economic and foreign policy agenda that has nothing to do with biblical values and commitments.

Mr. Bush has said his favorite philosopher is Jesus Christ. Yet his political priorities are often at odds with the major themes of Jesus Christ's life and teaching: peace, justice, and care for the poor.

For example, 1100 American soldiers and 100,000 Iraqi civilians have died in a pre-emptive, unilateral attack that did not meet the principles of a just war, an almost universal conviction of religious leaders.

Instead of voting based on a single issue, Christians for Dean encourages voters to consider all the issues and embrace a consistently pro-life position as it relates to peace and foreign policy, compassion for the poor, capital punishment, access to health care and education, creation care, economic justice, and racial reconciliation.

The truth is, Jesus is neither Republican or Democrat. As Christians, we should be fiercely independent and deeply thoughtful, supporting leadership that best reflects our ideals and convictions.

Thank-you for visiting.

From Dean's Farewell Speech to his Vermont HQ:

"We have been here before in this country. When William McKinley was president, enormous trusts were put together which made it impossible for ordinary Americans to start their own business, make any money without enormous pressure from those trusts, which destroyed their business. Teddy Roosevelt came along, busted up the trusts and made it possible to earn a living for ordinary Americans and small businesses again. Under Harding and Coolidge and Hoover, Calvin Coolidge said, The business of America is business, but forgot that human beings are not meant to be cogs in an enormous government corporate machine; that we are spiritual people who need connections and have to have community again. Franklin Roosevelt came along and took America back for ordinary working people again. "
